Black men and women all over the country are once again straightening up their backs and even sticking out their chest in pride for Barack and Michelle Obama. In the words of Martin Luther King, when your back is straighten that means you are going somewhere and a man can't ride your back unless it is bent. It has been said over and over again that we as a people no longer have any more excuses not to stand up and achieve greatness in this country. We have the best role model in our President and his family. Barack epitomizes what it is to be a man, what it is to be smart, what it is to be intelligent, what it is to be humble, what it is to have faith, what it is to work hard, what it is to be a husband and a father. He is constantly diplaying how a man can be strong in his beliefs and gentle with his wife. Yes he is the best example I have had the pleasure of witnessing in the media. These are positive images of a black man on television and they are not from a script, it is real and he is real, and I am loving every minute of it.
When Barack and Michele enters a room together, he still allows her to enter first, even though he is the President of the United States, he is first a husband. He presents her first in every situation that I have seen. The danger in this type of role model is that the black woman is going to now raise the bar for her black man, as this family has raised the bar for us all. Now ladies I must say that Michelle has earned this man's love and respect by being the woman that she is.
She is beautiful inside and out. She carries herself like a lady and therefore treated as one. She supported her man's ambitions even though she had a successful career of her own, but as we ladies do, she knew that what was more important was nurturing her family and that included her husband. She put her career on hold to utilize the platform that her husband was on to be a wife a mother and an advocate for change. Showing women that even if you put aside a career that you still have value and you can use that same tenacity to accomplish other things that are important in this life. Her first goal was to maintain normalcy in the lives of her two daughters as well as being a rock for her man, his stability. We all have roles to play in this life, and the sooner we learn what they are and then how to balance them, we will have a great deal less stress in our lives. No this is not easy but it is necessary.
